Sophoan is a gem. If you, like me were nervous about arranging a trip half way around the world with someone you never met, no need to worry here. Mr Rath planned the trip thoroughly, provided an excellent hotel, was timely, informative and flexible. We were honored to have Sophoan and his lovely wife join us for a dinner and a show on our last night in Siem Reap. More than a guide, Mr Rath is a thoughful and enjoyable person. Jim and Joan.

Details...

Rath Sophoan was the organizer and tour guide for a two-day visit my daughter, neice and I took to Cambodia in early April 2013. He was of stallar quality in all aspects and is an immense asset to his organization and to the country of Cambodia. Responsiveness: Always clear, pricise and prompt in email contacts prior to the trip. Organization: Always negotiated all obstacles to make our stay run smoothly. This included initial pickup and final dropoff in Bangkok that involved border handoff and pasport control issues. Politeness and consideration: Was always a gem to deal with and treated us wonderfully in every way. He anticipated food, rest and bathroom needs, frequently offered to take group photos of us at good photo spots and drove us safely and expeditiously multiple times through challenging traffic. Knowledge: He is a treasure trove of historical and cultural information about Cambodia. As a history person I could not have been more pleased. Command of English: Superb to the point that we enjoyed sharing logic and mathematical puzzles together. He is also possessed of a wonderful sense of intellect, inquisitiveness and good humor. He was a delight ot spend time with. In over 50 years of travel including over 100 travel guides he stands out as the best I have ever had. Richard Hess, PhD

Details...

We booked a one-day trip to Prek Toal which turned out to be truly memorable although the water level was too low to permit out boat to get all the way into the reserve (we visited in April, at the very end of the dry season, when the water is lowest). Sophoan Rath was a terrific companion: friendly, helpful, highly knowledgeable about the history, culture, and natural history of Cambodia. Everything ran like clockwork, and the "lunch boxes" from the Blue Pumpkin contained enough (wonderful) food for an army! Sophoan even thought to call our hotel to ask them to make up a packed breakfast for us because of the 5:00 a.m. pickup which meant that we could not get breakfast at the hotel. Highly recommended, though I would suggest visiting earlier in the dry season when the water is higher. Even so, we had great views of many birds, including three of our four main target species (Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Lesser and Greater Adjutant). No Milky Stork, alas. Getting a close-up look at the local fishing culture was fascinating, though it is distressing to see that fishing continues within the Prek Toal sanctuary and that the rangers turn a blind eye in exchange for a payoff in fish. A day to remember forever!

Sophoan Rath to najlepszy przewodnik jakiego spotkałam w swoich podróżach. Polecam go z całego serca. Iwona J. z Warszawy.

Details...

Mr Sophan Rath (Poan) of Cambodia Travel Trails was our tour-guide when we first visited Siem Reap and Angkor for the first time in 2009. Since then Poan has been our guide whenever we are touring Cambodia. Poan has organised for us - apart from two visits to Siem Reap and to Angkor - a sightseeing tour of Phnom Penh in 2010, overland trips by car to Kampot and Kep in 2011, to Koh Kong and to the Cardamon Mountains in 2012 and to Mondulkiri and Sen Monorem in 2013. Thanks to Poan and his excellent English we have become quite familiar not only with Cambodia's ancient and immediate past history but also with it's present day situation. We now can claim to know Cambodia better than any average tourist. With Poan's organising-talent we always felt safe and well looked after. Poan has throughout and without exception proven to be reliable, sincere, discreet, unassuming, attentive and familiar with western customs . He was always dedicated to his duties as an accredited cambodian tour-guide. That is why we have chosen him as our guide and we will ask him to be our guide again in future. We did a tour from Bangkok to Angkor Wat over 2 days in Oct.17. Hotel pick ups / drop offs went smoothly thanks to the drivers and guides. Our guide in Cambodia was Sophoan Rath - all communications via Email with Sophoan prior to the tour were always clear and prompt especially as we made changes to our original itinerary. We found Sophoan to be an excellent guide who was obliging, informative and very knowledgeable. He made our time in Cambodia unforgettable. Our driver in Cambodia was also excellent. We highly recommend Angkor Wat services and especially our guide Sophoan Rath.

Details...
We did the BA2 tour with Sophoan Rath back on October 7/8. All communications prior to the trip were with him and he was very good about response time and details. We admit we were nervous about the trip to/from Bangkok -- being picked up by a driver, taken to the border, then guided through the border process (weathered a hiccup there when the guide disappeared partway through the process), then driven onwards to Siem Reap. But it all worked out just fine and it was fascinating/edifying to see the countryside of both Thailand and Cambodia en route. Sophoan Rath was at our hotel when we arrived, with a car and driver, ready to take us on the tour's other adventures. He was very pleasant, kind, knowledgeable and informative and we believe we couldn't have had a better guide! Poan was able to not only tell about the sights we saw, but also add background stories to bring it all to life. He knew when to go places, how to avoid crowds and yet keep the tour from ever feeling rushed. There were no problems on our return drives/border crossing and, although it was a long 2 days, it was a wonderful experience and we would unreservedly recommend this company and particularly Sophoan, to anyone wanting to tour his parts of Cambodia!

Details...
